Michelle Brinkop, MD
Dr. Brinkop joined the SHS in 2007 as a staff physician. She is board certified in Family Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from UC Davis in 1990 and her Bachelor of Science degree from Cal State in 1992, her Medical degree from the University of Nevada in 1999, and completed residency training at the UC Davis, Merced program in 2003 and was board certified in Family Medicine in 2003. She also practiced medicine at Golden Valley Health Center for 5 years and enjoys focusing her practice on women’s health, infectious disease and travel medicine. She is also certified in Basic Life Support. Dr. Brinkop is certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
Chad Burgdorff, MD
Dr. Burgdorff joined the Student Health Service during the 2017-2018 academic year. He is board-certified in psychiatry and received his degree (M.D.) from Loma Linda University in 2003. Dr. Burgdorff has particular interests in PTSD, addictions, mood, and anxiety disorders. In addition to working with UC Merced Students, he enjoys teaching neuroscience and physiology to medical students (Loma Linda University). Dr. Burgdorff is also trained in Aerospace Medicine and works with pilots and the FAA with focus on mental health in aviation. In addition to flying, Chad’s hobbies include hiking and outdoor recreation.
Gillian Viers, MSN, FNP
Gillian Viers joined the SHS as a Nurse Practitioner in 2013. She graduated from the Family Nurse Practitioner program at the University of California, San Francisco in 2005. Prior to attending UCSF she received her BSN from the University of Virginia in 2001 and a BS in Biological Sciences from UC Davis in 1997. She has experience working as a nurse practitioner in both urgent care and reproductive health. She is also certified in Basic Life Support. Gillian is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Allyson Holman, PA-C
Allyson Holman joined the SHS in 2014 as a Physician Assistant. She completed her Physician Assistant degree at UC Davis in 2010. She became board certified in 2010 by the NCCPA. She has practiced for 4 years at Golden Valley Health center in the urgent care, family medicine and psychiatry clinics. She received her Bachelors of Arts degree from UC Santa Cruz in 2002. She also volunteered in the Peace Corps for two years as a community health educator in Peru. She is certified in Basic Life Support.
Ben Ward, PA-C
Benjamin Ward is a certified Physician Assistant that joined the staff at UC Merced in January of 2017. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah in 2005 and his physician assistant degree at UC Davis medical school in Sacramento, California in 2013. He was a National Health Service Corp scholar while attending UC Davis. He has worked in primary care and emergency care medicine in Arizona, Alaska, and California. He is a certified physician assistant by the NCCPA. He is certified in Basic Life Support.
Jeanny Jang, PA-C
Physician Assistant, Per Diem
Jeanny Jang is a certified Physician Assistant that joined SHS in 2019. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Biology in 2003 at the University of Houston. She graduated from her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas in 2008. She has since worked in the Central Valley area in California and has worked in Emergency Medicine and Urgent Care since 2011. She also has experience in Pulmonology, Sleep Medicine and Primary Care. She is certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Laura Brimberry, NP-C, RN, BSN, MSN
Physician Assistant, Per Diem
Laura Brimberry is a Family Nurse Practitioner who joined SHS in 2019. She completed her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2006 at California State University, Chico with honors in general education. She completed both her Masters in Nursing at California State University, Sacramento and her Nurse Practitioner studies at University of California, Davis in 2014. She has since worked in California in acute care, specializing in cardiology; transgender community health and gender-affirming therapy, including hormone replacement therapy; and college health. She has volunteered as a provider internationally in Peru and has her certification as an Advanced Wilderness Expedition Provider, in addition to Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Basic Life Support.
Rosie Lopez, RN
Clinical Operations Supervisor/Registered Nurse
Rosie Lopez is a certified Public Health Nurse that joined SHS in 2018. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of San Francisco. She graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California of San Francisco. She has since worked in Neonatal Intensive care, Infectious Disease, Healthcare Management, Risk Management, Quality Improvement and Ambulatory Care in the San Joaquin Valley since 1995. She is certified in Healthcare Management, Bilingual Health and Care Coordination.
Michelle Law, LVN
Licensed Vocational Nurse
Michelle joined SHS in 2012 as a licensed vocational nurse. She received her LVN degree from Merced College in 2011. She has worked for 14 years as a medical assistant/back office supervisor at a multispecialty health center and has served as a mentor for medical assistant students and nursing students. She is IV and phlebotomy certified. She is certified in Basic Life Support. Michelle Law is licensed in the State of California.
Ruby Cahue, MA
Ruby joined SHS in 2011. She is a Medical Assistant. She has over ten years experience as a Medical Assistant in a family medicine clinic. She is Basic Life Support certified.
Jessica Maciel-Sanchez, MA
Jessica joined SHS in 2016 as a Medical Assistant. She received her Associates degree from San Joaquin Valley College, Fresno CA. She Joined us with 11 years of experience as a Medical Assistant. She has worked in a variety of specialties which include, Family practice, Obstetrics/Gynecology, and Pediatrics. She is certified in basic life support.
Martha Durand, MA
Martha joined SHS in 2017. She received her A.S. from San Joaquin Valley College. She is a Certified Medical Assistant. She has nine years of experience as a Medical Assistant in family medicine, performing front and back office responsibilities. She is Basic Life Support certified.
Lorena Nunez, MA

Lorena joined the SHS in 2017. She is a Registered Medical Assistant. She has over four years of experience as a Medical Assistant in pediatrics and urgent care. She is certified in basic life support.

Maria joined the SHS in 2018 as a Medical Assistant. She completed her education at Milan Institute in 2014. She has over 4 years of experience in family medicine and urgent care. She is certified in Basic Life support.
Eileen Elrod, BBA
Business Operations Manager
Eileen Elrod joined SHS in September 2017 as the Business Operations Manager. She has been a valued staff member with UC Merced since October 2008 as a business officer overseeing business operations such as human resources, budgeting, and policy support and guidance for several departments in the Division of Student Affairs. Her transition to SHS in 2017 allowed her to continue supporting SHS in the HR and budgeting capacity while also allowing her to expand her scope to cover the areas of business process implementation and UC SHIP oversight. Eileen came to UC Merced with over 25 years of business administration experience and she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
Health Services Coordinator
Diana joined SHS in 2011. Prior to her position at UC Merced, she had 25 years of experience as a Medical Office Manager, Medical Billing Manager, Employee Supervisor in the Merced area. Her specialties in management have been in general medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. She has also worked with the medical assistance program at the Merced College in placing interns in medical practices to complete their MA course to prepare them for graduation and their future in the medical field.
Front Desk Administrative Assistant
Guadalupe joined the SHC in 2018 as a Medical Records Clerk. She has over 8 years of experience working front office and medical records. She has worked in busy multi-specialty clinics that include primary care, pediatrics, radiology, neurology, urgent care & counseling services.

Omar joined the SHC in Summer of 2019. He has over 6 years of clerical medical experience. Prior to UCM Omar worked for a large non-profit organization where he also processed specialty referrals and was also responsible for creating and modifying provider schedules as needed. He has worked in multi-specialty clinics that include primary care, pediatrics, geriatric, urgent care & counseling services.
Crystal Reed, BBA
Health Insurance Administration Supervisor
Crystal joined SHS in 2017. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from ITT Technical Institute in 2009. Crystal has over 6 years of Billing and Collecting Health Insurance experience. Prior to UCM Crystal worked for a large non-profit clinic specializing in Medi-Cal, Managed Medi-Cal, Medi-Care and Commercial Insurance billing.
Insurance and Billing Coordinator
Marshe Stockeland joined SHS in 2018. She is a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and is certified in Basic Life Support. She completed her education at Heald College and received her A.A.S degree in 2013. She has over 10 years of experience in the medical field and in management of medical offices. Marshe has experience in urgent care, cardiology, ophthalmology, chiropractic and primary care clinics.
Health Systems Business Analyst
Mark joined SHS in 2018. Mark has been an the IT industry for 10+ years. Most recently, he found his passion is Cybersecurity, Risk Management and HIPAA Compliance. He has worked with the National CyberWatch Center (NCC) to help develop Cybersecurity Educational Pathways called Information Security Fundamentals. He also worked with (NIST) National Institute of Standards and Technology workgroups and National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE). Mark’s hobbies include STEM/Cybersecurity Education, gaming, and researching threats realted to Health Systems.
