New Students
Welcome to the H. Rajender Reddy Health Center
Getting ready for college -- it's an exciting and busy time! You're looking forward to new friends, new experiences and a whole new way of life. Part of this new life will be managing your health care on your own, perhaps for the first time. All registered students, regardless of insurance, are eligible to use Student Health Services.
The information and links below can help get you started. Pay particular attention to the Immunization Requirements . Then surf around to explore the website. More than a few upperclassmen have said, "I wish I'd known sooner about all the services you have here!"
Before you come to Merced, there are several ways you can plan ahead to avoid or minimize the complications caused by illness.
- Tdap
- MMR
- Varicella (Chicken pox)
- Meningococcal
- Covid vaccine
- Flu vaccine

Every student wants to study in a healthy environment. Please check your vaccination card, upload the information to your health portal, and if you don’t have a vaccine, please contact your doctor before you come to school. The deadline for Fall/Spring incoming students is the first day of instruction.
|
All students are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) in order to meet the UC regents mandate that all UC students have health insurance coverage as a non-academic condition of enrollment. If you are already covered by a health insurance plan and don’t want to be covered by UC SHIP, please submit an online waiver during the fall or spring waiver periods.

All incoming students are required to complete a TB Risk questionnaire. Students who are identified as having a higher risk for tuberculosis will be sent a follow-up message via the myHealth portal. To avoid a registration hold placement, we strongly recommend that you meet this requirement before you arrive on campus. The deadline is the first day of instruction.

First Aid Kit
|
All students should bring a first aid kit with a THERMOMETER, Band-Aids, commonly used medications like Tylenol, ibuprofen, allergy medication, and/or hydrocortisone cream. It’s convenient to have this kit in the middle of the night or if the Student Health Services is not open.
|
Health Summary from your health care provider
|
Please bring a health summary or any recent lab tests from your clinician if you have any chronic health problems (like diabetes, asthma, thyroid issues). This helps our staff provide you with the best possible care. Please make an appointment to establish care at the health center before you become ill or before your run out of your medication if you have ongoing health needs.
|
Ongoing Medications and Refills
|
Bring enough of your ongoing medications for at least the first month of school and bring a copy of the prescription(s) with you. Plan ahead for refills…
|
Confidentiality form if you are on a parent’s or spouse’s plan (not UC SHIP)
|
If you are covered under another person’s health plan (like a parent or spouse’s plan) in California, your health information will not be kept private unless you fill out a Confidential Communication Request. This is a request that communications be sent to the patient rather than the policyholder.
